Be entertained. Be informed.

My name is Hannah. I’m a 22-year-old DC area native; I’m currently a student at Harvard Law School, and graduated from Cornell University in 2014. You can read more about me here.

This blog, founded in 2009, is a combination of things that amuse me and things that really matter. My aim through ASB is to entertain you, and hopefully to expand your horizons a little in the process. ASB is unique in that it manages to reach a much wider audience than traditional social issue blogs by packaging hard-to-swallow issues with humor and pop culture. ASB was started as a very personal blog, and I’m proud to say that it one billion pageviews later, it still is. While I don’t have time to constantly create content, I pride myself in curating fresh, entertaining content daily.

I occasionally write original blog posts or create original content. A few notable examples include:

  • World leaders and what they majored in - this article was picked up and featured on the websites of the Washington Post, Mother Jones, NPR, The Atlantic, Slate, and PRI.
  • Why rape jokes are uniquely bad - this original piece that I wrote following the Tosh.0 rape joke incident in 2013 received over 13,000 notes on Tumblr, and Analytics estimates suggest that it has been read by more than 150,000 people.
  • Orientalism and Victoria’s Secret’s “Go East” Campaign - this online campaign that I started in August 2012 was picked up by big-name race bloggers Angry Asian Man and Racialicious, and eventually led to Victoria’s Secret apologizing and withdrawing all Go East merchandise
  • Feminists for Misandry - Feminists for Misandry was a satirical online campaign to combat the notion that feminism is equivalent to misandry, or hatred of men; this notion of feminist misandry had been spread by one of the Tumblr Politics editors. The campaign was successful, and he was removed from his position.
  • Racism and The Big Bang Theory - this original post on the racism inherent in popular TV show The Big Bang Theory was widely posted on Facebook and on race blogs.

If you have any questions, you can find ways to reach me via the “Contact ASB” button in the sidebar. To potential advertisers and people who want me to promote their music/art/etc: you’re probably wasting your time. To everyone else: I’ll try to get back to you as quickly as I can.

Stay chill,
Hannah/Afternoon Snooze Button.
